Types of Surgical Abortions

  • Aspiration/Suction Abortion: most common 1st trimester surgical abortion performed 4-13 weeks after the last period.
  • Dilation & Evacuation Abortion (D&E): a surgical abortion procedure usually performed 15 or more weeks after the last period. 
  • D&E After Viability:  a surgical procedure taking 2-3 days that is performed 24 weeks or more after the last period.
